OCIE Man & Woman of the Year

WHO WILL BE ORANGE COUNTY'S NEXT
MAN & WOMAN OF THE YEAR?

WHAT IS MAN & WOMAN OF THE YEAR?
Man & Woman of the Year is a 10-week friendly fundraising competition benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society®(LLS), in which candidates compete for the titles in honor of local children, the Boy & Girl of the Year.

Local business and community leaders are nominated, and those who accept, become competing candidates agreeing to raise at least $10,000.00. Judged solely on a philanthropic basis, the candidate raising the most funds wins. After the competition ends, those winning the titles of Orange County/Inland Empire's Man & Woman of the Year are recognized in various business and society newspaper ads and in a national ad in USA Today. All candidates are featured in at least one ad in an Orange County/Inland Empire publication.

BOY & GIRL OF THE YEAR
Those campaigning for Man & Woman of the Year will be raising funds in honor of our 2009 Boy & Girl of the Year. The hard work of candidates and sponsor support will help these children and thousands of others in the fight against leukemia and other blood cancers.

WE WANT YOU
1. NOMINATE (OR BE) A CANDIDATE:
You know a business or community leader who loves competition for a good cause, is ambitious, outgoing, and would appreciate recognition for their efforts, we want them (or you) as a candidate!

2. BE A SPONSOR:
This campaign offers sponsors publicity, advertising, and product sampling opportunities while enhancing their image of public consciousness and community involvement.

3. BE A DONOR:
Make a tax-deductible contribution to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® in honor or memory of a loved one or toward a candidate's campaign. The Orange County/Inland Empire Chapter is able to provide a multitude of services and support to patients of blood cancers through the generosity of our donors.

4. ATTEND ONE OF OUR MANY EVENTS:
Email Heidi de Leon for information on individual candidates and official campaign events benefiting LLS. Our Grand Finale is great fun and provides the opportunity to network with other business people in the community. Bring a date, friend, client, or even a group!

WHY WE WANT YOU
We envision that in the year 2015 the great majority of people who have been diagnosed with a blood cancer will be cured.

  • An estimated 894,543 Americans are living with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
  • Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.
  • Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with one of the blood cancers.
  • Every ten minutes someone dies of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, or myeloma.
  • The five-year survival rate for blood cancers is greatly improving, but there is still much work to be done.
